10 Mile – Central Valley
Millerton Lake State Recreational Area

Soar Amongst the Eagles

With over 40 miles of shore land for water sports, this SRA offers visitors swimming, fishing, and boating. The hills surrounding the lake provide good hiking opportunities. Wildlife in the park includes ground squirrels, cottontails, mule deer, badgers and bald and golden eagles. During winter, the park has special boat tours to view the bald eagles. The lake was created by construction of the Friant Dam across the San Joaquin River in 1944. The park’s camping facilities include boat camping. The park contains the original Millerton County Courthouse, built in 1867. – California State Parks Website

Regional Info & Resources

California’s heartland offers up one of the state’s most authentic and sensory-rich experiences, a chance to see—and taste—the state’s bounty at every turn. Follow oak-shaded country roads to farm stands overflowing with fresh produce, and meander along wine trails to some of the state’s most productive vineyards and low-key tasting rooms. Throughout the broad valley, stretching for more than 400 miles down the middle of the state, are cities like Stockton and Fresno and Bakersfield—places that boast a rich history, international culture, and “everyone’s welcome” charm. – Visit California
